Back in June, when I published Can a Spider Be Fluffy?, I created a packet of activity pages for parents and teachers. (You can find more about them here.)
One of the activity pages was a worksheet that children can use to research and write about spiders.
Recently, though, someone asked if I had a bug journal for kids.
Obviously, a spider-themed activity page doesn’t cover other types of arthropods. Still , I thought it would be fun to adapt that worksheet just a little!
I’ve turned it into a DIY bug journal. There are five pages with different options for kids to write their observations and draw the creepy-crawly.
This version is very simple, but you can adapt it depending on your kids’ ages. Younger kids will need help writing some of the notes. Older kids can add extra notes and focus on either writing or drawing depending on their interests.
I also left a blank spaces on the page for a picture of the insect. If your child wants, they can use this space to draw the insect. Or, you can help them attach a photo instead, if you prefer.
