Hello! I’m Audrey Sauble.

I’m a children’s author, science illustrator and nature educator.

My books explore science and nature topics, including geology, pollinators, and PNW wildlife.

As an author-illustrator, I offer school presentations and workshops that engage kids and get them excited about storytelling, art and science.

I also teach nature journaling to both kids and adults.

With each of my programs, I offer activity pages and worksheets that teachers can use to explore the themes further.

Literacy/art focused themes include:

Short Bio:

Audrey Sauble is a children’s author and science illustrator with a passion for exploring nature through picture books. She started writing picture books several years ago after her oldest asked a question that turned into a conversation. Since then, she has written and illustrated several picture books–all exploring science and nature questions. Audrey has a Certificate in Science Illustration from California State University, Monterey Bay, as well as a Nature Journaling Educator Certificate from the Wild Wonder Foundation. Her mission is to get kids to ask their own questions about nature!

Sample Workshop – Pollinators

Introduce A Bee or Not a Bee? and read it to the class. After finishing the book:

• Ask students if they’ve ever watched a bee on a flower (show of hands).
• Ask students to discuss in pairs different ways they can learn about bees.
• Distribute flowers to the students’ desks/tables.
• Show students an diagram of the flower and ask them to find the matching parts on their flower.
• Show how to draw a flower.
• Ask how the pollen gets on bees as they visit the flower. Encourage students to write their observations and questions on their page.
• Suggest students share their observations in pairs. If there is time, a few students can share a question or observation with the entire class.

Optional take-home activities: a word search or word scramble activity to reinforce key terms, or a journal template that students can use to study an insect at a park or at home. (These are provided by the author.)

Goals: Create a model showing the parts of a flower and explain how bees carry pollen from plant to plant.

Time: 40 minutes

Schedule an author visit:

My standard package includes a 20-minute story time for pre-K/Kindergarten classes, plus two 40-50 minute presentations. The fee for this is $650, and it also includes:

• A set of 6 picture books for the school library
• Activity packets/worksheets for teachers to use in the classroom
• A personalized video to share with students before the visit
• Premade order forms to send home with students (+ optional fundraiser for the school’s PTA!)

I also offer workshops on geology, pollinators, and other Next Gen Science Standards themes. These can be booked as stand-alone visits with an individual class or as a package with my standard school visit.

For visits more than 60 miles from downtown Portland, Oregon, I may charge an additional $0.70/mile fee, plus travel costs for visits requiring an overnight stay. Sliding scales are available in some cases. I also can waive the travel fees or offer a discount on my programs if multiple schools are able to coordinate visits for the same or consecutive days.
